Workshops

The downside of advanced technology is often the difficulty of getting up-to-speed with a new system. Olympus Controls is dedicated to providing our clients with the highest quality machine automation training. We maintain a fully equipped, 1000 square-foot, classroom style training area at our Portland facility for the express purpose of expanding your knowledge base and increasing your comfort level and confidence with our products. We can also accommodate workshops at your facility and at other offsite facilities when requested.

These workshops are designed to be hands-on and are taught by experienced Field Application Engineers. We limit the classes to 12 students to allow time for individual attention. Each student will receive a product binder with the workshop material and the applicable product software. Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are full-day (8:30am – 4:30pm) with breakfast and lunch included.

Parker Motion Control (schedule)

This workshop is based on Parker’s multi-axis controller that’s capable of controlling both servo and step motor systems. Through hands-on exercises, students will learn to work within the Motion Planner software environment, develop software code and apply hardware features. The 6K4 and OEM drives will be used unless other arrangements are made. The class is focused on programming issues. Tuition:$200/person/day
Parker HMI Software (schedule)

This course is intended to introduce users to CTC Parker's Interact machine interface development software. Topics include use of Panel Toolkit, Alarm Management, Graphics, Recipe, and other Interact modules. Students will create interfaces, work with tags, become familiar with common drivers and communicate to machine controllers. Additional topics include interface design issues as well as PowerStation touch screen hardware. Tuition:$350/person/day
Parker Servo and Stepper Drives (schedule)

This course is designed for use with Compumotor Gemini stepper and servo amplifier products. Through hands-on exercises utilizing the Motion Planner software students will learn to program drives and controls for specific applications. Topics include Initialization files, runtime and error routines, programmable I/O, configuration options.
Tuition:$200/person/day
Animatics SmartMotor (schedule)

This course is designed for use with Animatics integrated motor/drive/controller products. Through hands-on exercises utilizing the Animatics software students will learn to program motors for specific applications. Topics include initialization files, runtime and error routines, programmable I/O, external encoder and configuration options. Tuition:$350/person/day
IMS Stepper Drives (schedule)

This course is designed for use with IMS OEM stepper products. Through hands-on exercises utilizing the IMS software students will learn to program drives and controls for specific applications. Topics include Initialization files, runtime and error routines, programmable I/O, configuration options. Tuition:$350/person/day
Machine and Process Control (schedule)

This course introduces Siemens S7 product family and provides an overview of their hardware and software components. This course concentrates on STEP 7 software, program structuring and the instruction set. Software tools and programming instructions are demonstrated to guide the student through the development of a realistic application. Analog processing and alarming are detailed through theory and program examples. Students will use test, debug and diagnostic tools to complete the programming exercises Tuition:$200/person/day
Machine Vision (schedule)

This course is intended to introduce users to Cognex’s In-Sight hardware and software. The basics of machine vision are discussed to provide students a solid foundation of each critical component – Camera, Lighting and Lens. Then through hands-on exercises students will apply In-Sight software tools to real life applications. Tuition:$200/person/day
Robotics (schedule)

This workshop teaches the instruction and programming of Denso's robot controller. We will start with the fundamentals of robotic integration. Then through hands-on exercises students will learn the programming of the robot both with Windows based software and also a teach pendant. Application examples will also be used to reinforce the ease of integration of machine vision into robotic workcells. Tuition:$250/person/day
