Ian Knox

What is your job title, and what does that position entail?
Sales Engineer, It involves going out and meeting customers and finding out what they need to solve their automation projects. Then finding the best solution from our portfolio that will meet the specification, whether it be Motion Control, Robotics, Machine Vision or Safety. I get involved through all phases from evaluation and sizing to quoting and follow the order through and past delivery when necessary.

How long have you worked at Olympus, where did you come from?
I have been with Olympus since January 2013. My previous experience is 20 years in the semiconductor industry as a vendor and customer and before that 5 years in the petrochemical industry working in industrial measurement ad control.

What do you like best about working at Olympus?
The variation, I don’t know whether I am going to visit a rocket factory one day or a food processing plant the next. It definitely keeps you on your toes.

What was your first job ever?
Delivering papers for local free pages…..it sucked (it rains a lot in England)

Describe some of your hobbies – what do you like to do outside of work?
I don’t get a lot of time to do my own thing, but we recently got a used RV so we are hoping to use that a lot over the summer

Have you traveled to any place exotic or interesting?
I lived in Taiwan for 18 months in 2004-2005, what a great place. I’ve probably done about 6 full loops of the world during my life.

What’s your favorite Sports Team?
Middlesbrough FC and England in what you call soccer and they are both equally successful and don’t hold it against me but the 49ers.

What is one thing you customers might find surprising about you?
I’m certified scuba diver and I’ve jumped out of airplanes and I used to fly planes obviously not the ones I was jumping out of at the time.
