Applications Technician

Portland, OR

What is your job title, and what does that position entail?

I am the Applications Technician for the Tualatin office. There are various facets to my position but my primary function is to support the Engineering team and build/set up demos.

How long have you worked at Olympus, where did you come from? A little history of how you got involved with Olympus?

My journey at Olympus began in the summer of 2018 and was hired full time November 2018. I was originally brought in to work in the Quality Department, but on a particularly slow day I was asked to lend a hand to the ES team. Over time my job evolved into a technician position and I’ve been with OC ever since.

What do you like best about working at Olympus?

There’s a strong sense of family here. The other people here aren’t just coworkers, they’re friends.

Describe a little of your past history.

One of my first jobs on this path was as an assembler for Microsoft. I spent some time on their production floor before eventually moving into the Internal Quality Assurance Department. Within their IQA I split my time between inspection and testing. After Microsoft I spent a little time at Rockwell Collins and DWFritz before landing here at OC.

Describe some of your hobbies – what do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I like to spend my free time with my wife, reading/writing/voice acting, playing video games, or finding something new to learn.

What are some key lessons you have taken from your career thus far?

Always listen to the people around you. Even if you feel that they have no idea what they’re talking about – every voice should be heard. Who knows, they might teach you something.

What is one thing you customers might find surprising about you?

I dream of one day having a pilot’s license. Or of being put on an interplanetary ship (round trip).
