What is your job title, and what does that position entail?

My job title is Mechanical Engineer I. As a Mechanical Engineer I in the Engineered Solutions team, I work closely with both sales engineers and project management to design electromechanical systems to solve customer problems. At Olympus Controls, I have the opportunity to help develop solutions all the way from initial concept designs to final manufactured products. My normal duties include selecting materials and equipment, performing engineering analysis on structures and electromechanical motion systems, and producing manufacturing documentation for our custom part vendors.

How long have you worked at Olympus, where did you come from? A little history of how you got involved with Olympus?

I joined the company as an intern in June 2017. After I earned my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Portland State University, I accepted an official position on the design team. At PSU I focused on robotics and automated control of dynamic systems. My studies gave me a good foundation to begin a career in industrial automation, but working with our experienced and knowledgeable design team gives me an opportunity to learn something new every day.

What do you like best about working at Olympus?

The challenging scope and pace of projects in our group is my favorite thing about working at Olympus Controls.

Describe some of your hobbies – what do you like to do outside of work?

When I am not working, I spend time slowly remodeling my family’s 1926 SE Portland house; a process which has taught me a great deal about everything from the residential permit process to concrete and finish carpentry.

What is one thing your customers might find surprising about you?

When I have time, I also enjoy camping, hiking, video games, and genre fiction.
